Diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve damage that can happen with diabetes. Over time, high blood sugar can
injure nerves throughout the body. Diabetic neuropathy most often damages nerves in the legs and feet first, followed by the hands and arms.
Symptoms:
- Burning or tingling feeling
- Loss of ability to sense temperature, pressure, or pain
- Numbness
- Muscle weakness
- Progression from discomfort to numbness as nerve damage increases
While diabetic neuropathy cannot be reversed, managing blood sugar levels and using appropriate treatments can help slow its progression and relieve symptoms.
